Savannah Venue Feature: Telfair Museums
Okay, I’m totally embarrassed to admit this, but here goes: I lived in Savannah for almost TEN years before my first visit to one of the Telfair Museums. I know, I know… totally shameful! In a city that boasts such a rich history, there’s really no excuse.
Wag your finger at me all you want, but I bet you didn’t know that the Telfair Museums also make for some AMAZING wedding venues. Yeah, that’s right. Your wedding could go down in history-- literally.
The Jepson Center
You might recognize this ultra-mod piece of architecture from the corner of York and Barnard. Designed by architect Moshe Safdie, this state-of-the art building houses art galleries, an atrium, and on its third floor, outdoor sculpture terraces. Arguably the largest of the three venues available for rent through the Telfair Museums, this chic space is perfect for couples who want to add a little edge to their wedding day design.
Telfair Academy
Did you know that the Telfair Academy is the oldest public art museum in the south? That means this venue is perfectly suited to the I&B couple seeking a little taste of that classic southern vibe for their wedding. Built in 1820 by English Architect William Jay, this space is wonderfully whimsical and romantic. Features include (but are not limited to) a three story Rotunda, a sculpture gallery, and preserved historic rooms throughout.
Owens-Thomas House Gardens
If you notice any similarities between the designs in the Telfair Academy and the Owens-Thomas House, you’re one smart cookie. They were both designed by architect William Jay! This garden space is wonderfully suited for an outdoor wedding receptions, featuring plenty of entertainment space as well as ample scenery for your wedding portraits. While the house itself is not available for rent, Savannah is perfectly temperate in the spring/late fall months, so plan ahead if you’re as in love with this space as we are!
We’re dying to plan your wedding at one of these gorgeous Telfair Museum locations-- and you’re just in time! We are now booking weddings AND florals for 2019. Click here to get started!
