Last Minute Wedding Details That Shouldn’t Be So Last Minute
First thing’s first: hi, I’m Paige. I’m the lovely creature who runs Ivory & Beau’s blog. If there’s anything you ought to know about me, it’s that I love goats, I love my job (because who can complain about getting to write about and play in wedding dresses??), and most of all, I am the QUEEN of procrastination. It’s the only way I know how to function, despite my best efforts. So trust me when I say I GET you-- I really, truly get you when you put things off until the last minute.
You know they say that coal turns to diamonds under pressure, but let’s be real, I&B Babes… if you’re planning a wedding, the last thing you need is to add a little extra pressure. You deserve for the last few weeks leading up to your wedding to be as stress free as possible! Just in case you’re a little lost, we’ve created a last-minute checklist so you can get the jump on things.
(Psssst: wanna know a pro-tip? Try to have all of these things covered TWO WEEKS before your wedding. You can thank us later.)
Picking Out Your Wedding Music
Sure, it seems simple enough. You and your fiance will sit down to dinner and wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am, you’ll have all of your wedding music-- from the song you’ll walk down the aisle to to the first down-- picked out before the drinks have even arrived… right?
WRONG.
There’s no shame in waiting until the major details are settled to take the time to get your jams sorted, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t at least be thinking about it. You wouldn’t believe how often couples find themselves tied up in other projects as they’re approaching the big day and then BAM! Before they know it, they’ve completely run out of time to pick their perfect mood music. We’ve always got a few suggestions up our sleeves if you’re lacking inspiration!
Get Those Wedding Gifts in Order ASAP!
Your wedding is a time to celebrate and be celebrated with your loved ones, so we completely understand why you might want to spoil them back! Just don’t put your shopping off to the last minute. Not only will you not want to have to worry about rushed shipping fees, but you’ll want to have everything wrapped and organized in a timely manner. Nobody likes to be rushing around packing gift boxes the night before their bridal shower!
Speaking of Orders… Order All Your Custom Gear NOW.
No, seriously. Open a new tab and get that shit handled. We love any and all custom details, from cups to cornhole, but you better believe that their presence can amount to a lot of stress if they aren’t ordered in a timely manner. The month before your wedding is not the time to be bulk-shopping! Once you’ve got the theme of your wedding down, go ahead and handle any customized gear. You can even use it as an opportunity to coordinate with the stationary from your invitations and RSVP cards.
Do It Yourself… Sooner Rather Than Later
We’d never object to a DIY project, but we might have a few words with ya if you think that they’re something that can be achieved overnight. If you’ve got plans to build your own arch, paint your own signs, or craft your own decor then SOONER is always better than LATER. Nobody likes to deal with the hassle and frustration of things not going to plan, so give yourself a little wiggle room to step away from your project and take a break-- without risking things being incomplete. In the end, your DIYs will look better and you’ll still have all your sanity, to boot!
Book That Plane! Or Cab… Or Uber...
Plane, train, pedi-cab… whatever modes of transportation you’re working with on your wedding day, go ahead and get that out of the way. This mega-important step in the wedding planning process takes at most twenty minutes, so there’s no excuses for putting it off any longer. If you want to roll up to your ceremony in something special, there are plenty of vintage cars or busses available for rental in the Savannah area. Don’t forget about transportation home from the reception either!
Be Extra! Make an Entrance/Exit Plan
Do you want to dance your way into your reception? Do you want to sneak in through the back door and have a bite to eat first? This is something you and your fiance need to discuss-- and preferably before the rehearsal so you have time to prep your wedding party. If you want a sparkler exit or a butterfly send-off, that’s great! But these accessories take time to get in, so if you want to be extra, be sure to have a plan in place.
Establish Your Beauty Routine
If you’re looking to make any minor adjustments to your beauty routine, start early! It takes time to whiten teeth and tan skin in a way that is healthy and sustainable for your body. New skincare products can irritate your skin and cause breakouts (and trust me, you don’t want to wake up to one of those on the day-of), so introduce them into your beauty routine slowly over time.
Don’t even think about starting a crash diet either. If you would feel more comfortable on your wedding day having lost a few pounds, go for it. But we urge you to stay safe and consult your doctor to establish a diet and workout plan that is best for you-- and always remember, you’ll always be the most perfect version of you on your wedding day as long as you’re wearing that stunning smile of yours!
Settle Your Style
Hey, so we know you’ve found the perfect wedding dress, but have you found the perfect rehersal dress? If you wanna strut your stress-free stuff throughout your wedding week, get your shop on ahead of time. Retail therapy the perfect excuse not to think about the wedding when things start to feel overwhelming-- but you’ll still be checking a few last minute details off your list without even thinking about it! Look at you, you go-getter. You rock!
What have you been putting off through the process of planning a wedding? We’re dying to know.
