How to Include Your Pet in Your Wedding!

Raise your hand if you couldn’t imagine doing life without your furry friend! Whether you’re a self-proclaimed cat lady or a dutiful dog lover, we know just how special your pet is to you. If you’re all about the animals, you may have even considered including your pet in your wedding. Our Ivory & Beau couples often ask us about the best ways to keep their furry friends involved-- and trust us when we say that there are more options than you could have ever imagined!

Best ways to involve your pet in your wedding ceremony.

Nothing says “I love my furry friend” like giving them a chance to make their grand entrance at your wedding ceremony! If you trust your pet to walk comfortably on a leash, they can be lead down the aisle by one of the wedding party-- or even the bride or groom themselves. Particularly quick learners can be trained to be a ring bearer, but if your pet is more keen on being a flower girl, have your florist create them a custom greenery leash like this one!

Every cat owner knows that walking a kitty is easier said than done. If your fancy feline can’t be bothered, provide them with a perch at the end of the aisle. Dress it up with some fancy blooms to keep things pretty and you’ve got one perfect place for your kitty to witness your vows.

If your pet is a little overzealous or not exactly what you’d consider a “people pet,” you may want to consider only bringing them around long enough for some private portraits. This will save both you and your pup or kitty from lots of stress on your wedding day and allow you to capture some precious moments together. Logistics of pet transport can be a lot, too, so if wedding day arrangements sound like a little too much work, keep in mind that you can also include your pet in your engagement photos, too!

Best ways to involve your pet in your wedding reception.

Want to keep your pet around for the party? Give them a place of honor to rest at close to the sweetheart. Even if your pet will totally soak up the love, it’s generally a good idea to provide them with a place to retreat to in case the attention gets to be too much. In the meantime keep them (and your guests!) entertained by setting out some wedding-themed toys to play with.

You can even include your pets in your grand exit by walking them out as a couple. Just be mindful of any loud noises or bright lights that might frighten them!
