The wedding is the big show. It's the time for friends and family to celebrate your new marriage with you and your spouse. But once the show is over, naturally, what you want is some alone time for the two of you.
Choosing a romantic island destination for honeymooning is very popular. Warm, tropical weather and inviting beaches present the perfect backdrop for a romantic honeymoon. If you are thinking of a tropical island vacation to get away to, here are some of the best island honeymoon destinations.
Maui
Sometimes called "Honeymoon Island," Maui is considered one of the most popular and best islands in the world for honeymoon destinations. Maui has a lot to offer. There are hotels and resorts in a range of price points to accommodate every budget.
Not only is Maui one of the most beautiful of the Hawaiian islands, but it offers luxury and plenty of opportunity for adventure. You and your true love can hike majestic island trails to visit pristine waterfalls, go snorkeling with sea turtles or even take a romantic sunset cruise. Popular resorts include Ka'anapali, Makena and Kapalua. If you are seeking something a little more upscale, check out Wailea.
Koh Yao Noi, Thailand
Thailand has many wonderful destinations to choose from, but none more perfect for a quiet and peaceful honeymoon experience than Koh Yao Noi. Translating to “Small, long island,” Koh Yao Noi offers the solitude you would expect from a deserted tropical island, far away from the noisy bars and party scene you might find elsewhere in Thailand.
Koh Yao Noi is just a half hour speed boat ride from Phuket, you will not find backpackers or crowded beaches of Thailand's more touristy areas. Instead it is just you and your significant other enjoying the tropical weather and solitude.
Koh Samui, Thailand
Thailand is known for its exotic destinations which attract thousands of tourists every year. A more well-known honeymoon destination than Koh Yao Noi, and probably Thailand's best island for honeymoon, Koh Samui is set for love. You can schedule a destination wedding here before enjoying your romantic, fun-filled honeymoon. There is so much to see and do.
Take a scenic nature hike in the Na Muang Safari Park where you can see amazing rock formations and stunning waterfalls. Visit a Buddhist temple. Go snorkeling or scuba diving at Ang Thong National Marine Park. You can even get a drink and enjoy the party at Chaweng. Of course, if you prefer to just lie in a hammock and relax, there is always Lamai.
Grenada
If you are getting married during the first half of the year, and want the most romantic honeymoon, you can find perfect, warm, dry weather in Granada. Known as “Spice Island,” Granada's peak weather happens between January and May. Set into the cool, blue waters of the Caribbean, Grenada is especially known for sailing.
You can charter a boat or bring your own. You don't just have to go sailing, though. Aside from it's 40 white sand and black sand beaches, you can see dense rain forests as you hike through Etang National Park or enjoy a luxury package at one of their resorts.
Mauritius
Located just off the coast of Africa, Mauritius is known as “Paradise Island,” and for good reason. The incredible array of white sand beaches that seem to go on forever and deep blue water of the Indian Ocean will make you know that paradise is right where you have landed. You can rent a car and travel sturdy roadways past lush sugar plantations to visit local markets. Stop by the village of Chamarel where you can sample local cuisine or see the Seven Colored Earth and the tallest waterfall on the island. Or you could just walk that endless coastline and enjoy Mauritius' sun-kissed beaches.
When you are looking for the perfect honeymoon destination for you and your new spouse to celebrate your love and enjoy one another's company, consider an island vacation. There is so much to see and do. From experiencing local culture to relaxing amid the natural beauty, you are sure to find something for everyone.
