Rustic Savannah Wedding at The Wyld Dock Bar {Featured on 100 Layer Cake}
When The Happy Bloom wants to do a wedding inspiration shoot with us we obviously said yes please!!! These guys are so awesome and their photography is absolutely beautiful. So we met at The Wyld, the location where we wanted to do the shoot, and we started talking and brainstorming. We wanted to create an editorial shoot that combined our 2 styles into one seamlessly. The Happy Bloom is known for their soft, romantic and airy style while we on the other hand can sometimes be a bit weird funky and more edgy. With inspiration from the song "Home is Wherever I'm With You" by The Lumineers an idea was born. A soft funky romantic with a bit more edge to it idea. The elements we wanted to incorporate included lots of leather, tons of greenery, bourbon, neutrals/wood/anything natural and a funky geometric pattern. And with that, our Rustic Savannah Wedding inspiration at The Wyld Dock Bar came to life. Head over to 100 Layer Cake to see more or scroll down for all the little details!
The Wyld is one of those quintessential must-go places in Savannah, GA. Located on the marsh, people can even ride their boats up to the dock (hence why it's called The Wyld Dock Bar..) The food is delicious and fresh and features Southern grubs with a twist. My favorite dish has got to be either the fish sandwich or the crab cake sandwich, oh and of course their desserts are a must. When we went they had a special that was some sort of chocolate scrumptious delicious cake pop ice cream bar that was pretty freaking amazing. One of those treats that you regret after the fact that you agreed to split with someone else because you definitely could have grubbed it by yourself no problem.
Not only is the food amazing but the atmosphere at The Wyld is fun, laid-back and exactly what you would imagine a Southern marsh outdoor restaurant to be like in the best of ways. It's friendly, comfortable and the decor is just enough retro and cool to make the vibe hip and fun. They have some lawn games out front, a table for oyster roasts and a bonfire. If I haven't sold you yet that this place is awesome then maybe it's time I stop writing and just show you the pictures...
For the flowers for the shoot, we didn't want to go overboard with blooms but rather wanted to use a lot of natural seasonal greenery to make everything a bit more masculine while still being soft and pretty. We had a color palette of green, neutrals and just a minimal touch of blush. I am pretty obsessed with both anemones and airplants so those were a must to include in everything. The blush ribbon around the bouquet was handpainted with a floral pattern by Adrienna for a more girly touch.
For attire, the groom was rocking his own rad blazer from Express Men. For the bouts we wanted to do something a little different than the normal wrapped stems, so we opted for leather tags with calligraphy by McKenzie Does Calligraphy and we love how they turned out. For the bride, we wanted to use one of our dresses that was flowy, sweet with just a touch of girly so we had Kinzie Ferguson (also a photographer) rock one of our newest Sarah Seven gowns, "Worthington." The airy layers of organza flowed in the wind so beautifully and with the leather jacket it was the perfect edgy girly look.
I loved seeing how all the pictures of Kinzie and husband turned out. It's always so fun when you get to see photographers step out from behind the lens and get in the spotlight. This quirky adorable couple had such a blast and were laughing, giggling and kissing the entire shoot. The love between them was obvious and shows in the pictures in such a sweet way. Thank you to you 2 for taking the time to model for us!!! :-*
The centerpiece was kind of one of those *AHA* moments if you know what I mean? I was in our back storage closet one day and ran across that wood geometric shape and thought hmm.... hanging centerpiece structure?! We used foam and taped it onto one of the corners and then went ham adding in greenery and some blooms. I always love anything hanging and this was maybe one of my favorite centerpieces we've done because it was so unusual and different from anything I've ever seen before.
Since the shoot was inspired by the Lumineers song we obviously had to include the song somewhere in the design of the shoot and what better way than in a handwritten calligraphed table runner on leather? This took McKenzie pretty much an entire workday but we love how it turned out, even though she did leave out some explicit inappropriate lyrics...
Just looking at this picture of the corn on the cob and shrimp skewers is making my mouth water... date night soon boyfriend???
So many details in this shoot were a collaboration between us and McKenzie, who not only does calligraphy but also is one of our team members who is both an assistant wedding planner and bridal stylist. You can read more about her & her mermaid hair here. Anyway, she also did the sweetheart chair signs and the escort cards. Playing on the geometric shape aspect we wanted to make some sort of installation type thing that doubled as an escort card display and so with some wood we created this random geometric shape that we then tied all the escort cards to. Is it just me or does it kind of look like a sailboat or teepee......?
We at Ivory & Beau love animals of all kinds. So we just had to use The Happy Bloom's dog. WoofGang Bakery also shared with us an "I Do" bone - the perfect treat for your furry loved one on your wedding day, because let's be real... why shouldn't your animals be involved in your wedding? I sure as hell know my 2 cats will definitely be in my wedding in some way or another... even if that means I'm dragging them through the grass on a leash and they're hating life and meowing like they're dying. It's just a must.
Word of advice - tall arrangements on a boat dock for desserts where it's windy is not advised. Hahahaha... so happy that The Happy Bloom got a quick picture of this even though Justin thought I was absolutely crazy for insisting on setting it up. Anyway, just glad none of the treats blew into the ocean because these little treats from Baker's Pride were delish.
But seriously, what outdoor Southern wedding is complete without a Whiskey Bar and cornhole??! Sometimes I'll be at Target and see something so totally random and not at all meant to be a floral vase but I just will be inspired... and that's exactly what happened here... the gold geometric "vase" is actually technically a pencil holder but I just loved it and it made the perfect arrangement for the bar. For the cornhole, we made custom leather bags that McKenzie then calligraphed with "Team Bride" & "Team Groom." Okay but really this is a wedding I want to be a guest at... donut holes... shrimp skewers... conrhole... whiskey shots... a cake with a deer head on it? Do you see the common theme here that we create shoots that are just actually weddings we want to be at? Hahah..
So I'm kind of seriously obsessed with not only the Wyld and the fact that they have an airstream on the property but also the badass '66 Eldorado convertible that Elite Arrivals has. How cool would it be to have a real wedding getaway in such a rad car? I mean... there's not much better ways to leave in style. McKenzie does Calligraphy also created a calligraphy sign for the car on leather.
AND... that's a wrap! Anyway, huge thank you to all the vendors who helped this vision come to life!! We couldn't have done it without ya'll and also huge thank you to 100 Layer Cake for featuring our shoot on your blog!!!
