SOS: How to Handle a (Potential) Health Disaster on Your Wedding Day

So, you woke up on the morning of your wedding with a pimple. Take a deep breath, girl. You will still continue to move mountains, you badass. You planned a whole amazing, freakin’ flawless wedding! You are still the same beautiful, unique, incredible woman that your fiance wanted to meet at the end of the aisle. This zit WILL NOT conquer you!

This is your health and wellness mantra for all of your worst case scenarios. Sure, you might not be the bride who wakes up with big ol’ uninvited guest on your cheek, but you may end up with a runny nose or a rash or even a broken bone. It might not be part of your vision for your big day, but have no fear, I&B Babe: you can still turn this major upset into a minor inconvenience if you come prepared.

Worst case scenario #1: ACNE STRIKES BACK.

The dreaded wedding day pimple is keen to make an appearance, but don’t let it stress you out-- no, really, stress contributes to the condition of your skin. To reduce redness and inflammation, grab an ice cube and wrap it in a washcloth before applying it to the affected area. (Psssssst: never, ever apply ice directly to your skin!) You may also want to apply a warm compress or freshly-soaked tea bag to the area as well. Remember: there is nothing that you can’t hide with a little concealer and your big, beautiful smile!

Worst case scenario #2: Sniffle, sniffle, sniffle.

Hey, nobody understands better than us that allergy season in the south can get intense. Whether you’ve caught a cold on your flight over or are in the throes of your battle with pollen, have no fear! A pharmacy is never far. We’re firm believers in packing an emergency bag full of all sorts of goodies for these what-if situations, so try to set aside some space for medicine and water just in case.

Worst case scenario #3: The unavoidable owie.

It happens, y’all. Sure, a twisted ankle or broken arm on a wedding day isn’t ideal, but it’s all part of your story. Bling up your cast with some gemstones or have your bridal party sign it with some sweet words of wisdom and encouragement. Hey, you could probably even find a talented artist to paint you a pretty scene! Crutches and wheelchairs can always be customized with floral arrangements. Don’t think of your injury as a setback… think of it as another opportunity to get creative and show off your personality. Positivity is KEY.

Worst case scenario #4: Hey WebMD, what’s this rash?

Take a deep breath and take inventory of what products you’ve been using. Did you get a spray tan for the first time the week before your wedding or start using a new lotion? When it comes to rashes, more often than not the culprit is a new product-- so try not to add anything new to your beauty routine in the weeks leading up to your big day. Pack some calamine lotion in your wedding day go-bag to soothe any itchy rashes, and remember that you can always take a nice oatmeal bath to reduce any redness and get some much-needed relaxation.

Worst case scenario #5: The dreaded tummy rumblies.

Don’t be upset that your tummy’s upset! Nerves affect people in all sorts of ways. Your day-of bag should always include an antacid, and it’s never a bad idea to include that life-saving little pink bottle of Pepto, either. We know you’ve been dreaming of your matrimonial mimosa, but it’s probably best to indulge in a little ginger or peppermint tea to soothe the ache instead.
