What the End of Daylight Savings Means for Your Winter Wedding
Having a wedding in the later fall/winter months has its upsides and its downsides. One of those downsides is the end of daylight savings….
Every year, in the first week of November, the clock always falls back an hour. We get an extra hour that day, which is awesome, however, we then begin to lose an hour of daylight every day. There is a lot of planning that goes into a wedding as it is, but in these months, you’ll have to make sure to take that into account when creating the timeline for your wedding. Here are some things to keep in mind when planning your winter wedding!
Time is of the Essence
The time of your ceremony should be early enough to accommodate everything you want to happen in between your “I do’s” and your entrance into the reception. Since the sun sets at approximately 5:20-5:30pm (*this time will change depending on the month) starting November 3, the ideal time for a ceremony is between 3:00 & 4:00pm, maybe even 4:30pm which would cut it close to sunset. However, the time you choose is all based on how much time you want devoted to photos, if you plan to have a first look before your ceremony, and how long your ceremony will last.
If you are having a first look before the ceremony, you will not need as much time for photos after, so your ceremony time doesn’t need to be as early as 3:00. However, if you are skipping the first look altogether, you will most likely want more time to capture the photos of just you and your partner before you begin the family portraits. Consider having your ceremony a little earlier than usual to give you more time, and will most likely be cheaper since it is a less popular time of the day.
Make a Plan
In order to make sure everything goes according to your timeline , we highly suggest that you make a detailed plan for your photos. Having an idea of the shots you want, and in which locations, will help you know how much time it will realistically take to get the photos you want. This will relieve some stress, and you won’t be rushed for time or feel like you didn’t get all of the photos you wanted. Of course, it will help to make this plan with your photographer, since they will know how much time they will need to achieve everything you want.
Communicate with Your Photographer
There are so many amazing and talented photographers, but you want to make sure to choose the right one for you and your wedding. Every photographer has a different style and aesthetic, so choosing one that matches yours will ultimately give you the most successful result. The photographer is going to know the best lighting, angles and locations, so communicating with them as much as possible will help you stay along the lines of your timeline and you won’t feel the need to rush to beat the sun. Sunset photos are also extremely beautiful, so letting your photographer know exactly what you want will allow them to prepare with the right equipment to produce the best photos possible.
