Wedding Pros Debunk Popular Wedding Misconceptions
Being in the wedding biz requires you to know the ins and outs, the facts and myths and everything in between. We stumbled upon 11 common wedding misconceptions on the Wedding Wire website and we decided to take a crack at a few and put in our two cents. So, without further ado, here are 11 wedding misconceptions and our input on them!
1. “The bride has to wear a white wedding dress”
Wrong-o…you can wear whatever color dress you want! As we are typing this we currently have our first ever BLACK dress here in the shop. You do you.
2. “You have to get married on a Saturday”
No way. We have had brides get married on Fridays, Sundays and even Tuesdays! Also keep in mind that venues will typically be cheaper on less popular days!
3. “Your bachelor(ette) party has to be a weekend-long rager”
No, or in Spanish “no”. Keep in mind your bridesmaids’/groomsmen’s budgets and schedules, if you can make an entire weekend work/it is what you want then go for it! However, your bachelor or bachelorette can be anything you want it to be, it can as extravagant as a month long excursion through the Europe or as simple as a night out to dinner.
4. “You have to have an even number of bridesmaids and groomsmen”
The number of groomsmen and bridesmaids DOES NOT MATTER. The only time you should ever be even slightly concerned about this is for photos but you should trust that your photographer can make it work, it is their job!
5. “You have to wait until the ceremony to see your S.O. on your wedding day”
Many, many, many, MANY people opt for a first look prior to the walking down the aisle moment of the ceremony. It allows for you to have a moment alone with your significant other, grabs some amazing genuine photographs and make a memory that is more personal to just the two of you (and your photographer) but most just the two of you.
6. “You have to have your cocktail hour between the ceremony and reception”
You certainly do not HAVE to…however, we recommend a cocktail hour or really anything to keep your guests occupied if you have to flip the space you had your ceremony in into your reception area.
7. “You’ll spend all your savings on the wedding”
NOT. If you budget, you’re set. Please see our blog on budgeting here where we deep dive into all of the tips and tricks you could ever ask for when it comes time to saving some dime.
8. “You have to serve cake for dessert”
Donuts, ice cream, popsicles, Fruit Roll-Ups, coffee cake, Christmas cookies, lollipops, pudding, pie, Fun Dip, fruit cake, cupcakes, Pop Tarts, icing from the jar…need we go on?
9. “Dancing is the only form of reception entertainment”
We have seen everything from hoola-hoop performers to lawn games…there are so many different options for entertainment aside from dancing. Although, we do recommend having a dance floor and some music be a part of your receptions because this is where you can see Aunt Suzanne really let loose and that is a priceless moment.
10. “You have to leave for your honeymoon the day after your wedding
The general consensus surrounding this one is that “no one does that anymore”. You certainly can leave right after your reception is over but we here at I&B recommend you at least take the night to relax, shower and get yourselves together and leave the next day for your first adventure as a married couple.
